Funny you should mention Racalmuto. My mother comes from that town.
Her maiden name is Mule', and in the nearby city of Hamilton Ontario, I have literally hundreds of relatives and paesani, all originating from Racalmuto.
Thanks for your quick reply.

Hi Tony, You are most likely related to the Miceli family. My first cousin (a Licata by birth name) married a Miceli, so we are not related (but then again, maybe we are?) I think that if you went to Grotte, you can go to the city hall and do some research on your family tree. If you find a relative, you can look them up, visit them. They'd be thrilled to meet you. There are no hotels in Grotte, but there are apartments in the historical center of town which you can rent (they are on line) or you can stay in the nearby town of Racalmuto and walk to Grotte from there or taxi in or rent a car. The towns are side by side and a writer Leonardo Sciascia put Ralcalmuto on the map, so there is a small hotel there. Thanks for your compliments on the slide show! Fran

Hi,
Truly enjoyed your story and slide show. I was born in Grotte myself, and family emigrated to Canada when I was 10, back in fall of 1968.
In your slide show, you mention cousins with the last name Miceli. Just a longshot, but would they be related to my paternal grandmother. Her maiden name was Concetta Miceli. She married Onofrio Carlisi.
I know she had a brother that emigrated to the Detroit area, and I still have second cousins in that area.
I would love to find out if any connection. As I get older I am more and more interested in researching my roots and one day soon making my own return to Grotte, even though I do not know of any family there.
Great job with the slide show.
