Happy New Year!
I got back from Chicago late on Thursday. Rick picked me up from the airport and we headed directly out to Ocean Shores. I was exhausted from my week in Indiana and the return flight with lots of delays!
We had fun last night, ringing in the new year, but I woke up today with a fever and the flu! Can’t remember the last time I had the flu! I have been in bed all day and this is the first time I am feeling up to doing anything. In fact, this entry should be called Blogging From Bed. Hopefully, I will be on the mend tomorrow! This is not a fun way to start out the first day of the new year!
Nevermind…
Well, Rick spotted another barred owl here at Ocean Shores and took some great photos of him. We think this guy lives in our trees on our land! Good, I hope he eats lots of mice. I got a great book for Christmas (thank you Linda and Steve!!) about an owl. The book is called Wesley the Owl. It is an amazing true story about a biologist who adopted a barn owl and took care of him for 19 years. I learned so much about owls. One incredible fact is that owls have an extraordinary sense of hearing and can hear a mouse’s heart beat well before they can see the mouse!
Here is our resident owl. Isn’t he handsome?
Wishing you a wonderful new year, 2011, filled with
happiness
good health
love of friends, family and community
lots of time spent in nature
serenity
and
peace!
He is absolutely gorgeous! He looks like a big boy too so I’m sure he’ll eat lots and lots of mice! I’m sorry you got sick. I’ve been sick for 3 weeks now (my left ear has been closed up for 2) and I can’t remember the last time I was sick for longer than 1 week. I’m hoping I’ll be breathing well enough (and not coughing anymore) for Monday’s class. I’m looking forward to seeing you!
