Iceland!

In this Land of Vikings

Can We Be Warriors?

And so began our morning Hatha Yoga session today.

Yes, I am here in Iceland with a dynamic group of yogis for our Hatha Yoga and Hot Springs retreat. It all started yesterday with meeting Einar and the group at the airport and then off to tour the Reykjanes Peninsula.  We had brisk temperatures, gusts of wind whipping at us, and clear sunny skies.  Below are some photos to stun your senses. First the wind and sunshine of the Reykjanes Peninsula.

Followed by a colorful sunset at our cabins.

And then at around 11:30pm the Aurora Borealis light show began. It was surreal.  At 11:30pm, Amy tried to wake me up by knocking on my door, but I was fast asleep. She knocked on every cabin door. No one responded to her knocking.. Then around midnight, I heard whoops and clapping from some other guests staying here and I immediately knew what was happening. I hopped out of my warm bed, put on hat, gloves, scarf, and a coat (over my pjs), slipped on my boots and went out to be greeted by the most marvelous night show of the Norther lights.

It was thrilling. I found dear insomniac Amy and we again knocked on everyone’s doors. This time I banged on doors, making sure to wake everyone up! And I shouted, “Northern Lights!! You DON’T want to miss this.” And out they came to see the spectacle.  Eerie green lights changing form and hue of green every few seconds. Some hints of pink and lights that beams to the sky. Ghostly, mysterious, glorious, thrilling! I’ve never seen the lights so clearly. The sky was clear and you could see Mercury and Saturn. The stars were brilliant.  photos below by Ann Krumboltz
