One fine November Day: Rick and Paul

One fine November Day: Rick and Paul

Conversational Fragments from our Sicilian Heritage and Yoga Retreat:

Kayaking on Glacier Bay
between floating icebergs
engulfed by blue ice

spotting spouting whales, frightened…
she’d rather be on shore and not in a kayak
until she fears a possible encounter with a bear

November, birthday month
Skies are grey, but slivers of sun shine through at times
Skies look painted
The last red and golden leaves cling to the trees
Did you know that most deaths occur during the month of November?
Quietly, I thank my parents for making their huge exit in the light and warmth of summer

Man on Bender
Causes Fender-Bender at the beach entrance parking lot
How do we get past the cars, the cops, the miserable inebriated man with head hung low?
“Can you move just one car so we can drive out of here?”
Question met with anger.
“You might try saying PLEASE!”

Knock yourself out cooking up a feast of Sicilian specialties

Please, if anyone asks you about the retreat this weekend,
Don’t just talk about the food!
Please do tell them we did  yoga, too!
Sicilian Heritage and Yoga Retreat… a feast for the senses.

Story telling
110 pounds of tough love
when you hold a baby, don’t forget to check out the goods
Stay healthy! Eat Kale and Chard!  Loads of it!

Hey, is there chard in this?  Or is this kale?

Kale and Chard grow abundantly at Little Renaissance.

We listen to a poem by Yeats
And another dimension unfolds.
We discover another English literature major among us.

Early October, torrential rains brought on mud so slick, the cows were slipping and sliding
South Dakota, how cruel your heavy rains!
But even crueler, the snowstorm that came on the heels of the rain,
Buried thousands of cows who tried bravely to walk away from the storm

Buffalo survive Dakota winters by walking into blizzards…

Moose, more dangerous than bears

So, how did you meet?  Tell us your story.
Stories of love unfold as Rick plays Vivaldi on his violin.

It was so much fun to share my Sicilian heritage and to cook up a storm for the Sicilian Heritage Yoga Retreat…we shared storytelling and laughter, we had meaningful conversations and experienced soulful connections, we did hours of yoga (though you would never guess that from the dearth of yoga photos in the following slide show), and we went on long walks on the beach and were blessed with mild November weather, we saw horned bucks grazing on our property, and we ate like Sicilian royalty…sit back and enjoy the short show:
