Today is officially the first day of spring. Late last night, we sat in our hot tub and watched the big beautiful full moon come up! Glowing, glowing.
I haven’t posted a blog entry in a while. Feels trivial to write about my work weekend here at the coast. The weather was in the 50’s and was a mix of rain and bouts of sun. I got lots of gardening chores done. All the beds have been weeded and are ready for planting in a few weeks. Some flowers are already blooming. It seems the garden is beckoning for warmer, sunnier days! Included is a photo log so you can see just what I have been up to:
Forever trying to organize and keep up:
Our retired cat! This guy can sleep all day if we let him. He just barely opened his eyes for the photo:
Deer proofed garden box has been weeded, mended with manure (nasty job!!), and turned and tilled. I have a big ol’ blister to show for my work! This box is ready for planting. Note the hearty kale and a tiny row of collards that made it through the winter:
The herb garden does not attract deer. I cleaned up all the rough edges and this herb garden is ready to burst with colors! I usually avoid taking photos this time of year as things look sort of plain and drab, but there will be a striking contrast soon!!
More deer proofed garden boxes ready for planting. This row of rhubarb is promising! Already, some onions are coming up:
Newly planted herb garden:
Deer protected Chinese plum tree in blossom:
Rick busy at work, making pickets for the new stairway leading off the deck to the hot tub:
Beautiful pink blooming mature dogwood waiting to be planted:
Delicate Lenten Rose (helibore) in full bloom:
My Zimbabwean heron, feet graced by prime roses, welcomes spring to our home, Little Renaissance, in Ocean Shores:
Finally found a new home for some of my cookbooks:
Getting to be about that time to pack our things and head back to the city where a week filled with teaching awaits me!
loved the garden tour!
Rick – your hair!! Wow. It’s getting long. Happy Spring to both of you! 🙂
i think there can be great connection in sharing about our daily chores we think mundane. I enjoyed seeing your pictures and hearing about the ordinary weekend there at Ocean Shores.
there is nothing like a garden to tune you into the seasons!
