Walking, on the day before Christmas, in the Mexican town of Sayulita, we see the “bed” truck goes by.  The loudspeakers repeatedly boast beds for sell!  The Bed Mantra goes like this:  “Buy your Christmas bed today.  Buy your home delivered bed today.  Delivered right up to your doorstep.  Cama Cama Cama Cama Cama Bed Bed Bed Bed Bed Buy Your Bed today. “  (Of course, this is all said in rapid Spanish.)  Rick and I wonder how many beds this vendor will sell today.

People on the beach and at the street-side restaurants are happily sipping tequila, margaritas, and beer. Families smile and my heart feels so light.  Rick and I spend Christmas day at the beach. We sit and watch the purple sunset.  Later, three ladies, who have been sitting near us, leave the beach for the day.  Each of them greets me upon leaving:

“Buenas noches.”

“Buenas tardes.”

“Asta la luego.”

I greet them each in return, like a parrot, repeating their words back to them.  And I feel so inexplicably happy.  I am a baby turtle being released into the sea.

Baby Turtle barely as big as my hand.

Children ride their new bicycles with smiles that reveal missing teeth.  Is there a tooth fairy in Mexico?  How I wish I had taken the photo of the little girl and her endearing toothless smile!

Our new friend, Pino, originally from Sardinia, feeds our hearts and souls on Christmas Eve.  He made enough food to feed an army.  I could never have imagined such a delicious meal with a touch of Italy here in Sayulita.

We brought a piñata for Zoe and watched her whack at it.  She is a mighty child with her 3 ¾  years of life concentrated in the bat she swings to release candy and stick-on tattoos.   Later, Zoe so generously shares her candy with us all.
