I’ve lived in Seattle since 1991 and yet, before yesterday, I had never been to see the Tulip Festival in the Skagit Valley. Given how much I love flowers, this is unbelievable on my part! Year after year, I admired photos from friends who had driven one hour north of Seattle to see the fields of tulips. Oh, we had plenty of excuses not to go. The main excuse was that we had a second home, the ocean house, and dashed over to the coast nearly every weekend to be there. I believe losing Toni helped me to prioritize seeing the Tulip Festival this year. No! I was simply not going to miss it one more year.
The Tulip Festival in the Skagit Valley is pure magic! Seeing the pink, red, and yellow tulips lifted my spirits. The air smelled so fresh, the day was warm, the sky clear, and we had a great view of the Cascade Mountains. As we walked, I kept thinking about Toni and how she would have loved walking along the paths. How she would have enjoyed posing for photos! Her dazzling smile would have competed with the beauty of the tulips.
Like all flowers, tulips bloom and show their gorgeous bright faces for just a short time. We are gifted a short window of time to experience their exquisite and simple beauty and then that’s it. Just like Toni, they make their bright appearance and then they are gone. While tulips are in bloom, their turban-like form and their bright splashes of colors dazzle the eye. There is no red like the red of a red tulip.
I believe flowers have the power to help heal a broken heart.
Take time to enjoy these photos.
The global death toll from COVID-19 surpassed 3 million this week. I look at these fields of tulips and wonder if each tulip were to represent one life lost to the pandemic (the tall yellow one is Toni!), could this this be what 3 million looks like? It is hard to fathom so much loss.
I am still wrapping my arms around one loss, our Angel Toni.

Good morning Fran. It is now Monday. Thank you for launching the week with these tulips, Toni, and remembrance of the lives we have lost to COVID across the globe. With love. Namaste.
Hi Fran,
The Tulip Festival in Skagit Valley is a MUST SEE.
Toni would have LOVED the beautiful tulup blossoms stretching across the land and swaying gently in the wind.
I’m so glad you saw them!
Make sure you visit the lavender festival next month in Sequim County! We met Tom and Ursula there one year. It was fabulous, fragrant and fun!!!!
Love,
Jeanne
You have a real eye, Fran, for composing pictures. Ofcourse, the subject matter is unbelievably beautiful.
I’m so glad that you took this outing. Blessings and love, Lucinda
Thank you, Lucinda!
Hi Fran. My husband Steve and I have taken several classes from you over the years, but I wouldn’t expect you remember us. 🙂 I’ve enjoyed your blog and look forward to a day when we can practice with you again…This is probably one of many, many messages reaching out to let you know how truly sorry we are for your—and your family’s—huge loss. Thank you for sharing your beloved Toni with us. Through you, Toni has touched another heart. I am inspired by your family’s love and the soul that is Toni. As an artist, Toni’s artwork touched me especially. What a talent. What a genius. Art created from a passion and love like Toni’s is a very special gift. I’m praying for your comfort and peace. Take care.
Hello Kirsten! Of course I remember you and Steve. Not only did you take classes with me at OmCulture, but we did some private yoga sessions together. It is great to hear from you and thank you for your loving and thoughtful words. Yes, Toni’s artwork is beautiful and bold!! and I will in due time make cards from her art and reprints of her work. Those will be available though the Toni-Love Foundation I hope to start in a few months. She touched so many lives. I am dizzy with grief. But I know that comfort and peace with come with time. I now have a little studio in Green Lake, on Woodlawn, next to the veterinarian and behind what used to be Spuds. Right now I am teaching online and hope to be able to do in person classes at some point (classes will be hybrid, meaning I’ll livestream my live classes, too. I’ll blog about the studio soon. So far, all I’ve done is teach online here. I started leasing it out in July 2020. Big hugs to you and Steve and your family. Namaste, Fran
