Yesterday early morning Icelandic time, there was a Blood Moon visible.  I did not, could not wake up to see it.  I also missed the lunar eclipse of the Blood Moon (or Super Moon) early this morning, too, because I was sleeping.   Franck, however, did wait up to see it and said the moon was a blood read for a few seconds and he said it was fantastic.  I, strangely enough, woke up at 2:30am without an alarm clock, and dragged myself out of bed to have a look out the window and saw the most brilliant full moon in a large clearing among the clouds.

Howard Eustis is here with us for the week and was inspired to write a poem on the eclipse:

Iceland Eclipse

Tracks along the path
Hurry to visit the shrine
Before the long rain.

I bend the window shutters
While the Earth gathers a moon

A morning thrush hops
On a lawn, hoping for worms
That do not come

The wind won’t leave me alone
While wet wool itches the skin

Darkness seems near
As the hot steam rises from
The nearby pools

The hot days have left us now
Only to embrace the winter snows.

Super Moon (Blood Moon) eclipse yesterday early morning:
